HC Deb 06 July 1948 vol 453 cc203-4
59. Brigadier Rayner

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is now prepared to publish a list of those organisations which he considers to be directly or indirectly under Communist influence and with which civil servants concerned with responsible or security matters should not associate themselves.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reasons against publishing such a list given by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister in the Debate on 25th March last.

Brigadier Rayner

In view of the fact that certain Communist organisations, have been masquerading under the most innocent names, such as the Council for Civil Liberties, will not the right hon. Gentleman consider doing what I believe was done in Washington, that is, publish a list of organisations which are not approved of by the Government?

Mr. Gallacher

Is not the Minister aware that in the opinion of the other side any good Labour man who is not a good Tory is under Communist influence?
