HC Deb 05 July 1948 vol 453 c17
33. Mr. Symonds

asked the Minister of Food if he will grant a special allocation of sugar to beekeepers immediately, to counteract the adverse effects of the recent cold wet weather on the hives.

Mr. Strachey

After consulting my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, I have decided in view of the weather conditions to make available to beekeepers immediately up to 5 lb. of sugar per colony as an advance on the autumn and winter feeding allowance which would normally be obtainable from 1st August.

Mr. Symonds

Is the Minister aware that this information will be welcomed by beekeepers?

Brigadier Head

Is the Minister aware that he is to be congratulated on making this grant to almost the only workers in the country who have no trade union?
