HC Deb 05 July 1948 vol 453 cc34-5
71. Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Labour the policy of his Department with regard to the employment of alien labour on a farm, in cases where a reconciliation tribunal is of opinion that the dismissal by the farmer of his British workers was unreasonable.

The Minister of Labour (Mr. Isaacs)

I cannot condone such action by a farmer, but I am happy to say these cases are exceedingly rare. There have been only three involving six men, each of whom was happily settled in other employment. Otherwise, I should have taken all steps open to me to withdraw the foreign worker to enable reinstatement of the British worker.
