§ 35. Mr. Granville Sharpasked the President of the Board of Trade, what action he is taking to promote the increased manufacture of Caste 48 MG Tube paper, urgently required for the manufacture of paper bobbins and tubes.
§ Mr. H. WilsonIn the past eight months, the supply of paper for the production of paper bobbins and tubes has been increased by 30 per cent. which it 1185 is estimated should be adequate to meet essential home requirements. I shall be glad to investigate any case in which a user of bobbins is unable to obtain the necessary supplies.
§ Mr. SharpIs my right hon. Friend aware—I have sent him this information—that although there has been this increased allocation of paper for the production of paper tubes, there is still a great shortage, and, as a result, exports of yarn are being held up?
§ Mr. WilsonThe paper allocated for this purpose in the current period is 28 per cent. more than in the previous period. With reference to the case which my hon. Friend sent to me, my information is that because of newcomers to the industry existing firms are not working at anything like full capacity at the present time.
§ Mr. SharpI am now speaking about the yarn manufacturers, who cannot get the paper tubes which they require in order to export yarn.
§ Mr. WilsonThere is no reason why any yarn manufacturer should not be getting all that is required.
