HC Deb 21 January 1948 vol 446 cc185-6
13. Mr. Collins

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is aware that the proposal to blow up concrete shelters now used for storage in the town of Lübeck will cause considerable damage to surrounding property; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. McNeil

No demolition will be carried out that would be likely to cause damage to surrounding property or public services.

Mr. Collins

Will my right hon. Friend consider whether it would not be possible to retain those buildings for some useful purpose, at least temporarily, in view of the great shortage of all kinds of accommodation?

Mr. McNeil

There is provision for the temporary retention, in certain circumstances, of such structures, and we are, of course, keeping it carefully in mind.
