HC Deb 12 February 1948 vol 447 cc571-2
56. Major Legge-Bourke

asked the Minister of Labour how many letters have been received by his Department this year accusing named individuals of evading the Control of Engagement Order; what proportion of these is anonymous; and what action is taken about such communications.

Mr. Isaacs

The information asked for in the first two parts of the Question is not available. As to the last part, the action taken would depend on the contents of the letter.

Major Legge-Bourke

Would the right hon. Gentleman give an assurance that any anonymous letters which are received are put into the most suitable receptacle, and that the public will be encouraged, if they have information to give, to give it to the police and not to the Ministry?

Mr. Isaacs

I can give the hon. and gallant Gentleman and the House the assurance that, so far as I am personally concerned, an anonymous letter is not taken the slightest notice of.
