HC Deb 12 February 1948 vol 447 c560
33. Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Health if there are enough bricks available to meet the needs of all the houses now under contract; and if any houses are being held up at this time due to bricks not being available.

Mr. Bevan

The answer to the first part of the Question is, "Yes, Sir," and to the second part, "No, Sir."

Mr. Bossom

Could the Minister authorise some more houses to be built? If we have enough bricks cannot we have some more houses authorised?

Mr. Bevan

Houses are not built exclusively of bricks.

Mr. Bossoom

I quite appreciate that houses are not built entirely of bricks, but would the Minister say whether there are any other materials which are in short supply, and which prevents the building of houses?

Mr. Bevan

Timber.

Mr. Bossom

The other day the Minister told me that there was enough.
