HC Deb 11 February 1948 vol 447 cc377-8
48. Mr. Warbey

asked the Minister of Defence what arrangements have been made between the United Kingdom and the United States for regional defence cooperation; which regions are covered by the arrangements; what military units are to be employed in each case; and whether notice of these arrangements has been given to the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Mr. Alexander

No such arrangements have been made.

Mr. Warbey

Is my right hon. Friend aware that in November, 1946, the Prime Minister stated that we were making preparations for regional security arrangements with the United States; and can he say what progress has been made with those preparations?

Mr. Alexander

My original answer has given that information already.

Brigadier Head

Does not the right hon. Gentleman consider that the ill-advisedness of such secret arrangements has been amply demonstrated by the revelations concerning the Russo-German Treaty of 1940?
