HC Deb 11 February 1948 vol 447 cc351-2
8. Mr. Odey

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether, in view of the reduction in the strength of the Navy and the necessity of maintaining a training ground for the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, he will consult the Minister of Fuel and Power with regard to a petrol allowance for motorcraft and auxiliary yachts.

Mr. Dugdale

Yes, Sir, but I doubt if he will be able to make any concession.

Mr. Odey

Will the hon. Gentleman consider what would have happened at Dunkirk if this training ground had not been available at that time?

Commander Maitland

Will the Minister say from where we are to get the men to join the R.N.V.R.? How are they to be expected to join the R.N.V.R. if they cannot take advantage of these facilities?

Mr. Dugdale

That is quite another question.
