§ 13. Mr. Douglas Marshallasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty what was the amount of gross tonnage of Merchant Navy vessels immobilised at the end of December, 1947, firstly, from repair and secondly, conversion or reconversion; and will he state separately the tonnages of passenger ships, liners, deep sea tramps, tankers and coasters involved.
§ Mr. W. EdwardsAs the answer contains a number of figures I will circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
§ Mr. MarshallIs it possible for the Minister to give me a reply to the first part of the Question?
§ Mr. EdwardsThe first part of the answer states that the amount of gross tonnage immobilised by repairs was 1,133,805, and that immobilised by reason of conversion or reconversion, 777,441 gross tons.
§ Following is the answer:
§ The tonnage of Merchant Navy vessels immobilised on the 1st January, 1948, by reason of repair was 1,133,805 gross registered tons and by reason of conversion or reconversion was 777,441 gross registered tons.
