HC Deb 10 February 1948 vol 447 cc200-1
35. Lieut.-Colonel Geoffrey Clifton-Brown

asked the Secretary of State for War if the proposal to acquire 23,400 acres in Suffolk, south of Thetford, has now been modified; and what is the area now suggested.

Mr. Shinwell

My Department's proposals to use land for training purposes south-west of Thetford have been reduced to small arms ranges at Thetford Warren and Barton Mills, and a mortar range at Berners Heath. Part of the Berners Heath area will be used in conjunction with the R.A.F. The total area, additional to the prewar Air Ministry leased land at Berners Heath, is, approximately, 2,000 acres. These amended proposals are being considered by the Inter-Departmental Committee on Services Land Requirements.
