HC Deb 10 February 1948 vol 447 c210
43. Mr. E. Fletcher

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning what steps he is proposing to take to give effect to the recommendations of the Special Committee on Footpaths and Access to the Countryside.

Mr. Silkin

I am not yet in a position to reply to my hon. Friend. I am at present considering the recommendations of the Special Committee on Footpaths and Access to the Countryside.

Mr. Fletcher

Can my right hon. Friend give any indication when he will be able to do so, in view of the very great interest taken?

Mr. Silkin

Not yet.

Mr. Warbey

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this matter is one of great urgency, particularly in South Bedfordshire, where historic public rights of way and noted beauty spots are being threatened with devastation by the extension of chalk workings?

Mr. Silkin

I am aware of the evil and that is why the matter is receiving consideration.
