HC Deb 13 December 1948 vol 459 c829
44. Mr. Erroll

asked the Minister of Supply if he is aware of the difficulty of overcoming the inertia produced by standardisation; and if he will instruct the Advisory Committee on the Motor Industry to consider this danger, while advising on methods of standardising the production of motor vehicles and their components, to ensure that the evolution of new designs of components and vehicles shall not be hindered.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

This is a point which my Department and the engineering industries already have fully in mind.

Mr. Erroll

And what are they going to do about it?

Mr. Strauss

In proceeding with standardisation and simplification, for which there is a great need, they bear in mind that beyond certain limits this process is dangerous; but there is a long way to go before they reach those limits.
