HC Deb 13 December 1948 vol 459 cc829-30
55. Mr. Hurd

asked the Minister of Supply if he is aware that after farm water supply schemes have been approved for grant by his Department a delay of six months or longer occurs before galvanised piping can be obtained; and if he can now say what action he is taking to hasten the provision of such essential materials.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for South Molton (Mr. Lambert) on 29th November last.

Mr. Hurd

Some weeks have passed since then and the supply of galvanised piping has not improved. Can the Minister say what he is now doing?

Mr. Strauss

The reply was that the manufacture of these pipes was insufficient, but it is hoped that the amount will increase substantially early next year.
