§ 35. Mr. Shephardasked the Secretary of State for War if he will review the present position which prohibits any person being granted a commission in the Territorial Army unless they have previously held a commission.
§ Mr. ShinwellArrangements are now under consideration whereby suitable men serving in the ranks of the Territorial Army will be able to obtain commissions. It is proposed that to be eligible for consideration candidates should have completed 12 months' service in the ranks of the T.A., including one annual training camp, should be approved by a Selection Board on the lines of those now engaged in selecting officers for the T.A., and should attend a special course lasting 15 days at an Officer Cadet Training Unit. This O.C.T.U. Course will count as annual training in camp for the training season next following. It is hoped to announce the final scheme very shortly, and at a later stage to make the necessary arrangements to cover National Service men who have completed their service with the Colours.
