§ 16 and 17. Mr. Goronwy Robertsasked the Minister of Labour (1) the actual or estimated number of persons who have assumed work of national importance outside Caernarvonshire as a consequence of the application of the Control of Engagement Order; in how many cases was direction used; and in how many cases are proceedings for noncompliance contemplated;
(2) the actual or estimated number of persons who have assumed work of national importance as a result of the application of the Control of Engagement Order; in how many cases was a direction issued; and in how many cases proceedings for non-compliance are contemplated.
§ Mr. IsaacsI hope to have available about the middle of December the results of the operation of the Control of Engagement Order. As I have already promised the House, I will place in the Library a monthly report on the effect of the Order. One hundred and one directions were issued during the four weeks ended 29th October; 91 in respect of coalmining and agriculture, which were 1768 already covered by a Control of Engagement Order before 6th October. Thus only 10 directions were issued as a direct consequence of the new Order during this period. In none of these are proceedings for non-compliance at present contemplated. The number of persons registering at local offices in Caernarvonshire who were placed in employment outside that county during the period 6th to 31st October was 100, including 37 within daily travelling distance. No directions were issued during this period.
