HC Deb 17 November 1947 vol 444 cc807-8
62. Mr. Dye

asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps he has taken to bring all suitable land under cultivation for crop ping in 1948 in the district between Swaffham and Brandon outside the Stanford battle training area.

Mr. T. Williams

Part of the land in this former tank training area is being cultivated by local farmers. The remaining area is woodland and heath which is very deficient in lime and exceedingly low in phosphates. My Department is considering whether any of the land referred to justifies immediate attention bearing in mind the heavy demand on the resources of the war agricultural executive committee for bringing back into production considerable areas of better land that have been in use for defence works.

63. Mr. Dye

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether the land formerly used as a bombing practice range between Bradenham and Soham has been handed back for full agricultural use.

Mr. T. Willliams

This land is in full agricultural use, but possession is still retained by the Air Ministry.
