67. Mr. Vaneasked the Minister of Food what proportion of the 5,000 tons of olive oil for which the Greek Government has given authority for export has been obtained for this country.
§ Mr. StracheySo far as I am aware none of this oil has yet been offered for sale. Our importers may be trusted to secure as large a share as possible of it for this country.
§ Mr. WalkdenIn view of the fact that the Greek Government neither buy nor sell, and no one has any confidence in their currency, how does the right hon. Gentleman expect to get hold of any olive oil from Greece?
§ Mr. StracheyThe first thing is for the Greek Government to decide whether they will permit any of it to be exported. If and when they do, we will go about the job of procuring it, which may not be easy.
