HC Deb 19 May 1947 vol 437 c1995
39. Sir Robert Young

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that the mother of ex-Sapper H. Lightfoot, R.E., kept in business on behalf of her son; that he was demobilised on 18th January, 1946, took over the business in February, 1947, and applied for an increase in points capital and was refused; and why this ex-Serviceman is not entitled to an increase under the scheme to assist ex-Servicemen taking over businesses.

Mr. Strachey

The fact that Mr. Lightfoot recently took over a business from his mother does not qualify him for a grant of points under the scheme for helping ex-Servicemen who re-open their own businesses. I am glad, however, to inform my hon. Friend that, on sympathetic grounds, a grant of additional points is being made.
