HC Deb 15 May 1947 vol 437 cc1705-6
68. Mr. Keeling

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what will be the capacity of the new electricity generating station at Poplar.

Mr. Gaitskell

The station is being designed for an ultimate capacity of 300,000 kilowatts. The first part, which has now been authorised, will have a capacity of 157,500 kilowatts.

Mr. Skeffington-Lodge

Would the Minister look into the question of extending the size of this station, with the object of doing away with the proposed station at Bankside?

Mr. Gaitskell

There is a further Question on the Order Paper about Bankside, but I must point out that, to extend the station beyond 300,000 kilowatts would be an extremely difficult business.

69. Mr. Skeffington-Lodge

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what is the present output of the Bankside electricity generating station; and what proportion is used in the local distribution network.

Mr. Gaitskell

At times of peak load, the Bankside station generates about 75,000 kilowatts of which approximately two-thirds is used in the local distribution network.
