HC Deb 20 March 1947 vol 435 cc589-90
55. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what answer has been made to the Engineering Industries Association by His Majesty's Government on the problems of current taxation payments submitted by that association.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

The Association will not, I am sure, expect my right hon. Friend to anticipate his Budget Statement.

Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

Surely the Financial Secretary has missed the whole point of this Question. Representations were made to him that as a result of the present crisis small engineering firms could not pay their immediate taxation requirements through having the guaranteed week and other commitments, and do not the Government propose to make any proposals to help these small firms?

Mr. Glenvil Hall

I think there must be some misunderstanding. I have here the letter from this association. It makes proposals dealing with taxation.

Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

Including, surely, the payment of current taxation?
