HC Deb 20 March 1947 vol 435 cc571-2
17. Mr. Guy

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will consider the granting of powers to local authorities to prevent unauthorised persons trading, and the holding of fairs and shows, on bombed sites.

Mr. Ede

I am afraid I could not undertake to promote the legislation which would be necessary to give effect to my hon. Friend's suggestion.

Mr. Guy

May I ask the Minister whether he is aware of the growing practice of trading on these bombed sites, which is having a detrimental effect on the existing market trader?

Mr. Ede

This would appear to be a matter that could be dealt with as a trespass.

Mr. Guy

Is my right hon. Friend aware that there is no regulation for dealing with that matter?

Mr. Ede

That is not contradictory to what I have just said.
