HC Deb 10 March 1947 vol 434 c952
56. Mr. Dye

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether effective steps have now been taken to reduce the number of foxes in the neighbourhood of the Stanford battle-training area; how many have been shot; and what number does he estimate have been killed by other means.

Mr. T. Williams

Yes, Sir. Although the severe weather has restricted operations, 29 foxes have been shot since 8th February. In addition, 29 earths have been gassed and it is estimated that this has accounted for another 60 foxes.

Mr. Dye

May I ask my right hon. Friend to pursue this until he has disposed of the very last fox in this neighbourhood because we do want to extend our poultry there?

Mr. Quintin Hogg

Does the right hon. Gentleman contemplate holding a hunt ball?

Mr. Dye

Is my right hon. Friend aware that we are quite capable of disposing of all these foxes without celebrating?
