HC Deb 10 March 1947 vol 434 cc951-2
54. Mr. Gerald Williams

asked the Minister of Agriculture when he expects to introduce legislation to assist allotment holders.

Mr. T. Williams

I can hold out no hope of the early introduction of legislation to amend the Allotment Acts, but I propose shortly to consider, in consultation with interested bodies, the points that should be dealt with in such legislation when the opportunity arises.

Mr. G. Williams

Is the Minister aware that security of tenure is just as important for allotment holders as for the farmers, and that allotment holders are tired of being treated as the pets of consecutive Ministers in wartime and being completely neglected in peacetime?

Mr. T. Williams

I hope that they are not going to be neglected in peacetime.

Mr. De la Bère

This makes certain that they are.

Mr. Berry

Is my right hon. Friend aware that the last legislation affecting allotment holders dates back to 1926, and does not he think it high time that new legislation was introduced?
