HC Deb 01 July 1947 vol 439 cc1120-1
16. Mr. David Eccles

asked the Secretary of State for War why, in view of assurances given to the hon. Member for Chippenham, no satisfactory action has been taken to deal with the refuse tip near the Pheasant Inn, Chippenham Without.

Mr. Bellenger

A bulldozer is needed for this purpose, and the only one available in the area is being used on more urgent work. When this is finished, which I hope will be in about two months' time, the refuse tip will be cleared.

Mr. Eccles

Is the Secretary of State aware that, on 25th April, the War Office told me that the Ministry of Health had made strong complaint about it, and that a bulldozer was then promised? Is he not also aware that this is the hot weather season, and does he consider that if he waits two months it will be in the interests of public health?

Mr. Bellenger

Other Departments besides my own have an eye on bulldozers, and, unfortunately, I have lost some of my bulldozers.
