HC Deb 11 December 1947 vol 445 c1168
12. Brigadier Peto

asked the Minister of Health whether he will now say by what date the Bideford Amateur Athletic Club, The Pill, Bideford, about which the hon. and gallant Member for Barnstaple first wrote to the Ministry on 19th December, 1945, will be derequisitioned by his Department.

Mr. Bevan

The date cannot yet be determined. Before the premises can be released other accommodation must be prepared for the day nursery now occupying them, and the county council have been authorised to invite tenders for the necessary work.

Brigadier Peto

Is not the right hon. Gentleman aware that as long ago as May, 1946, the county council were considering the question of adapting certain huts which had been Army huts, and that a decision was to have been come to very shortly? That was over 18 months ago. What has happened about it?

Mr. Bevan

I do not know, when the hon. and gallant Gentleman talks about the county council concerned considering the matter, whether he means that consideration has been held up by us.

Brigadier Peto

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health informed me in August, 1946, about this, and I had his statement in mind when I asked the Minister of Health whether any decision had yet been come to with regard to the adaptation of these huts.

Mr. Bevan

Yes, on 3rd November authorisation was given.
