HC Deb 01 April 1947 vol 435 cc1818-9
14. Mr. Vane

asked the Secretary of State for War whether Territorial battalions of infantry regiments, which have always worn green walking-out dress, will be allowed to retain this privilege under the proposed regulations.

Mr. J. Freeman

The general policy is that Territorial battalions will wear No. I dress of the same colour as that worn by the Regular battalions of their regiment. The application of this general policy to individual units of the Territorial Army is now being considered.

Mr. Vane

Will the hon. Gentleman please bear in mind that there are a small number of Territorial battalions who, even since 1908, have retained their original rifle traditions and characteristics? Will he try to do his best to ensure that they may retain their uniform, which he as an old greenjacket I am sure will appreciate is a matter of great concern to them?

Mr. Freeman

I will certainly bear that in mind.

Colonel Gomme-Duncan

Will the hon. Gentleman see that similar privileges will be extended to those who have been forced into green, much against their will?
