HC Deb 01 April 1947 vol 435 cc1846-7
84. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that the Granite Supply Association, Limited, of Aberdeen, has been forced to curtail its production and employment owing to scarcity of rough granite blocks of which they formerly imported 20,000 tons to supplement home supplies; that much of this is required for building work; and if he will now grant the necessary import licences.

Mr. Belcher

No, Sir. I am advised that adequate quantities of rough granite are available from home sources.

Mr. Hughes

Can my hon. Friend say whether the granite can be obtained?

Mr. Belcher

If my hon. and learned Friend will give me notice, I will endeavour to tell him.

Mr. Charles Williams

Is the hon Gentleman aware that there is a far higher grade of granite to be obtained in Cornwall than in Aberdeen?
