HC Deb 31 October 1946 vol 428 cc786-7
72. Mr. Thomas Reid

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why, when the heroism of the military during the Savernake Forest explosions was recognised, the bravery of the N.F.S. men on that occasion received no mention.

Mr. Ede

I thank the hon. Member for giving me this opportunity to express my personal appreciation of the gallant conduct displayed by members of the National Fire Service on this occasion. The possibility of the selection of particular individuals for special recognition is under consideration.

Mr. Reid

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that these splendid men came from all parts of Wiltshire?

Mr. Ede

Oh, yes; I am very grateful indeed for the way in which the call for help was answered.
