HC Deb 31 October 1946 vol 428 c782
54. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Labour to what extent the cost-of-living index number of 205 for August, 1946, takes into any account the £350,000,000 of cost-of-living subsidy.

Mr. Isaacs

Fully.

Sir W. Smithers

Would it not be much better and healthier for the country if this subsidy was removed by stages so that the public could be made aware of the awful tragedy of the situation brought about by the presence of this Government?

Mr. Isaacs

I fully answered the Question on the Order Paper.

Sir W. Smithers

But the right hon. Gentleman cannot answer the supplementary.
