HC Deb 30 October 1946 vol 428 c586
12. Commander Noble

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty in what type of building are naval shore-based personnel accommodated at Trincomalee and Singapore, respectively.

Mr. W. Edwards

At Singapore the majority of the naval ratings are accommodated in permanent barracks constructed before the war. At the Naval Air Station some of the ratings are housed in temporary timber huts. At Trincomalee the greater part of the accommodation is temporary, chiefly consisting of timber huts. At both bases a limited number of officers have permanent residences.

Commander Noble

Can the Civil Lord give an assurance that the temporary accommodation at Trincomalee is in good repair?

Mr. Edwards

I can give the assurance that we are going into the matter very carefully to see if we can improve it, and, in fact, to make permanent accommodation there. In addition, we have sent out a representative to go into the whole question of accommodation and present a report.
