HC Deb 29 October 1946 vol 428 cc423-4
8. Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning whether he has yet provided the Flaxton Rural District Council with the plan his representative promised on 3oth July, showing what prospective building land will have to be sterilised in the parishes of Rawcliffe, Clifton Without, Skelton, New Earswick and Wigginton, in order to protect the Ministry of Civil Aviation's project at Rawcliffe aerodrome.

Mr. F. Marshall

A plan of the Rawcliffe airfield, showing the boundaries, runways and air funnels, was sent to the Flaxton Rural District Council on 9th October, 1946, to assist the council to comply with the provisions of S.R. & O. 1946, No. 370, designed to safeguard the use of airfields. As has already been indicated to local authorities in Circular No. 23 of 25th March, 1946, detailed plans of each airfield showing areas in which development may be restricted are to accompany the issue of a revised Order which is now under consideration, and which it is hoped to issue at an early date. Mr. Turton: Is the Minister aware that his representative promised that detailed plans would be received on 3oth July, which is now more than two months ago, and that the plan received merely gives details of the boundaries of aerodromes, which have been known for many years?

Mr. Marshall

The hon. Member will no doubt appreciate why the Ministry have indicated the boundaries of airfields and the areas in which restrictions will apply, and that it is for the local authorities to send in their own proposals for development.

Mr. Turton

Is the Minister aware that the regional officer of the Ministry said that all projects in the area were now blocked, pending the arrival of detailed plans?

Mr. Marshall

I would rather await the proposals of the local authority.
