HC Deb 28 October 1946 vol 428 c278
50. Colonel Wheatley

asked the Minister of Agriculture if, in view of the shortage of paraffin in the rural areas of East Dorset, he will restrain the officials of the Forestry Commission from using paraffin to assist in the destruction of plantations.

Mr. T. Williams

The Forestry Commission does not destroy plantations, so that no such instructions are necessary. If the hon. and gallant Member is referring to the destruction of surplus nursery stock at Ferndown, which was the subject of his Question and my reply on 14th October, I should explain that, as the stock was somewhat green, the use of a Primus was necessary to start it burning. The fuel consumed was rather less than a quart, not of domestic paraffin but of tractor vaporising oil.
