HC Deb 28 October 1946 vol 428 cc256-7
4. Mr. Digby

asked the Minister of Supply the number of motor cars ordered by the Service Departments and other Government Departments, respectively, during the last 12 months; how many have been delivered; and what priority has been given to these orders over holders of licences under the former priority system and members of the general public.

Mr. Wilmot

The numbers are 181 and 3,889 respectively, of which 22 and 1,402 have been delivered. Government orders are not given priority.

Mr. Digby

Is it not a fact that Government Departments get the cars almost immediately after they order them, whereas ordinary citizens have to wait something up to two years?

Mr. Wilmot

The facts are not as the hon. Member says, as he will see if he studies the figures in the answer.
