HC Deb 28 October 1946 vol 428 cc279-80
56. Mr. Dye

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he has considered the request from the Norfolk County Council's Small Holdings Committee for the return to them of the land previously incorporated in the Ludham R.A.F. station; and whether it is his intention to accede to the committee's request at an early date.

Mr. T. Williams

The request of the Norfolk County Council for the return of their land for smallholdings purposes will receive the fullest consideration in reaching a final decision as to the future of Ludham airfield. With the existing shortage of building labour and materials, however, the reconversion of this land to smallholdings could not be justified at the present time. Meanwhile the Norfolk War Agricultural Executive Committee are making the fullest possible use of the land for food production.

Mr. Dye

Is my right hon. Friend aware that the small holdings committee are anxious to make use of this land in order to satisfy the needs of a large number of applicants for small holdings?

Mr. Williams

Yes, Sir. The whole of our small holdings policy is under very active consideration.
