HC Deb 24 October 1946 vol 428 cc30-1
46. Mrs. Ayrton Gould

asked the Prime Minister if he is aware that considerable apprehension is felt that the amount of labour and material required to erect and equip the projected 1951 exhibition will seriously retard essential building and production; and if he will give an undertaking that the House will be given an opportunity to debate the matter before any final decision is made to hold an exhibition in 1951.

The Lord President of the Council (Mr. Herbert Morrison)

I am aware of this problem, which is at present being given detailed consideration by the Departments concerned. As regards the second part of the Question, no doubt an opportunity of raising the matter will occur in the normal course of business.

Mrs. Gould

When will a definite opportunity be given the House to discuss this matter before a final decision is taken?

Mr. Morrison

I was not saying that the Government would give an opportunity; I was saying that no doubt an opportunity will arise. It is for hon. Members to watch for the opportunity.
