HC Deb 21 October 1946 vol 427 cc1298-9
40. Mr. McAdam

asked the Minister of Supply, if he will speed up the clearing away of the stores at present occupying the land below the Crescent Playing Fields in the city of Salford, having in mind the fact that the Salford City Council had already been promised the restoration of this ground for October of this year and that the ground is badly needed for playing fields in what is a badly-congested area.

Mr. Wilmot

Yes, Sir. Arrangements have already been made and the ground will be cleared by 31st January next.

Mr. McAdam

Is the Minister aware that in February of last year the Salford City Council were promised the use of these playing fields by October of this year, and will he say why that promise has not been given effect?

Mr. Wilmot

We have done our best to keep the promise, but the difficulty of finding other accommodation for necessary U.N.R.R.A. and relief stores has proved so great that I am afraid we are a bit behind, but we will do our best.
