HC Deb 05 November 1946 vol 428 c1208
41. Mr. Stubbs

asked the Minister of Labour what proportion of ex-Service students in the Government's Business Training Scheme have remained unplaced in business for substantial periods after the completion of the three months' general business course; and if he is satisfied that the arrangements made by the appointments department for placing business trainees in further training or in suitable employment are adequate and effective.

Mr. Isaacs

Up to 12th October, 788 students had completed the general business course under the Business Training Scheme. Only 36 out of this number have remained unplaced after one month from the completion of the general business course. In every one of these cases the men have been submitted to one or more potential employers. These results show that the placing arrangements have been remarkably effective and are evidence of the genuine way in which business has cooperated in the scheme. We need that cooperation to be continued for some time to come. At 12th October a further 1,892 students were in training or had been allocated to training, and it is to employers everywhere that we must look to supply opportunities for these trainees when they have completed their general business course.
