HC Deb 05 November 1946 vol 428 cc1185-6
1. Sir Waldron Smithers

asked the Minister of Works whether he has considered the details which have been sent to him concerning the lack of bricks at Nos. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12, Malvern Road, Orpington; when delivery of the bricks can be expected; and whether he has any statement to make on the matter.

The Minister of Works (Mr. Tomlinson)

The final consignment of bricks required for this work was delivered early in October.

Sir W. Smithers

Can the Minister say how many months' delay there was? Is he not aware that this attempt to run private industry from Whitehall leads to awful delays, especially in the putting up of houses in badly bombed areas? Why were these bricks not sent by rail?
