HC Deb 05 November 1946 vol 428 cc1187-8
10. Mr. Alpass

asked the Minister of Works what progress is being made with the delivery of Airoh houses in the South-Western region, particularly in the Sodbury and Thornbury Rural District Councils' areas.

Mr. Tomlinson

About 5,200 aluminium houses have been allocated to the South-Western region. To date 2,767 slab foundations have been completed and 1,332 houses have been handed over for occupation. One hundred and eighty temporary houses have been allocated to Sodbury Rural District Council and the aluminium type has been allotted to the sites for 100 houses which have so far been made available. Work on foundations has been completed at all available sites and 73 houses have been delivered, of which 59 have been completed and handed over to the Council. At Thorn-bury, which has an allocation of 50 aluminium houses, all foundation work has been completed and it is expected that all houses will be delivered by the end of this month.

Mr. Alpass

Will the Minister see that every possible step is taken to expedite the delivery of these houses in these districts and thus relieve to some extent the very acute housing shortage which exists there?

Mr. Tomlinson

Yes, Sir. I think if the hon. Member will study the answer he will find that we are keeping up the programme in these districts.
