HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 cc1028-9
14. Sir Waldron Smithers

asked the President of the Board of Trade if his attention has been called to the criticisms by Mr. Rowland Thomas, K.C., the Old Street magistrate, on 25th October, on the action of two women inspectors; what disciplinary action does he propose to take: and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Marquand

I am aware of the remarks of the learned magistrate. The task which these two officers had to perform and on which they gave evidence is always a difficult one, and I see no occasion for disciplinary action.

Sir W. Smithers

Is the Minister aware that this case is typical of many instances of Gestapo—?

Mr. Speaker

Insinuations and imputations are not in Order in asking supplementary questions.

Hon. Members

Withdraw.

Mr. Speaker

If I require the hon. Member to withdraw, I will say so.

Sir W. Smithers

How much longer does the hon. Gentleman think the people of Britain will put up with these methods?
