§ 21. Mr. Marplesasked the Minister of Works whether the building department of the London Co-operative Society, 54 Maryland Street, E.15, has been given a certificate by his Department under Defence Regulation 56AB; and what are the rates of pay paid by this firm.
§ Mr. TomlinsonThe London Cooperative Society Ltd. was granted a certificate of registration, in respect of its building department, in September, 1941. I am informed that the rates of wages being paid by this firm to building operatives are, 2s. 8½d. per hour to craftsmen, and 2s. 2¼d. per hour to labourers.
§ Mr. MarplesIs the right hon. Gentleman satisfied that the rates of pay paid by this firm do not infringe the conditions which his Department require before they grant a certificate?
§ Mr. TomlinsonAll I know is, these were the complementary rates in operation when the registration was granted. There has been no alteration.
§ Mr. MarplesWill the right hon. Gentleman make inquiries to ensure that the rates of pay paid by this firm do not infringe those requirements?
§ Mr. TomlinsonI will inquire into it.
