HC Deb 28 May 1946 vol 423 c960
2. Mr. Manningham-Buller

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning whether he is now in a position to make a statement with regard to the report by Mr. A. H. S. Walters, V.C., on the scope and efficiency of the measures at present employed in the ironstone industry in Northamptonshire and adjoining counties for the restoration of land damaged by quarrying operations.

Mr. Silkin

I am afraid that, because of the pressure of other urgent matters, some time must still elapse before I am able to make a statement on this matter.

Mr. Manningham-Buller

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that on 16th October last he undertook to make a statement on this matter at the earliest opportunity? Is it really the case that there has been no opportunity up till now, and is he not aware of the importance of land restoration for the purpose of food production, and that nothing was said about this matter in the course of yesterday's Debate?

Mr. Silkin

The undertaking still stands. I do intend to make a statement at the earliest possible opportunity, but there are other urgent matters which must take first place.

Mr. Manningham-Buller

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the reply, I beg to give notice that I shall raise the matter on the Adjournment.
