HC Deb 28 May 1946 vol 423 c995
85. Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will give instructions to his regional officers to ensure that powers of direction are not used to compel building trade operatives, who are engaged upon private enterprise housebuilding work, to give up their jobs and transfer to local authority housing contracts.

Mr. Isaaes

Both types of work enjoy the same priority for the supply of labour, and only in very exceptional circumstances would labour be directed from one kind of work to the other.

Mr. Bossom

Is it not most unjust that after people have done work by private enterprise, for which permission has been given, their employees should be directed to another job?

Mr. Isaacs

As I said in the answer, in only most exceptional circumstances does such a thing take place.
