HC Deb 25 March 1946 vol 421 c19
72. Mr. Lyttelton

asked the Minister of Supply and of Aircraft Production how many tanks and of what type are being reconditioned at R.E.M.E. workshops at Aldershot; and how many men are employed upon this work.

Mr. Wilmot

I am informed by my right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for War, that 20 tanks a month are being reconditioned in these workshops; they are of the following types: Sherman Crab II, Sherman A.R.V. II, Cornet, Cromwell IV, VI and VII, and Sexton G.P.O. One hundred and fifty-three civilians, and 20 military personnel, are employed on this work.

Mr. Lyttelton

May I have an assurance from the right hon. Gentleman that he will look into the question of using skilled labour for reconditioning obsolete tanks?

Mr. Wilmot

That is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for War.
