HC Deb 25 March 1946 vol 421 c16
40. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister of Supply and of Aircraft Production whether he will favourably consider the appointment of a national advisory council for the radio valve, and radio industry generally.

Mr. Wilmot

As there exist adequate means for dealing with questions relating to this industry, there is no need to appoint a council such as my hon. Friend suggests.

Mr. Lewis

Is my right hon. Friend aware of the cartels that are being operated, and of the big combines? Does he not think it is necessary to combat such activities?

Mr. Wilmot

I do not think the method suggested by my hon. Friend in his Question would be the best one with which to deal with them.

Mr. Lewis

Can my right hon. Friend think of some other method?

Sir Ronald Ross

Does the Minister think that there are sufficient valves on the market for the ordinary user of radio apparatus at present?

Mr. Wilmot

Yes, Sir.
