35. Mr. Braddockasked the Minister et Supply and of Aircraft Production what the output per month from royal ordnance factories will be of taps, cupboard units and gas cocks; what is the completion date for the orders already placed; when it is expected that orders for gas and electric cookers, gas water heaters and ceramic components will be placed with royal ordnance factories; and if he is satisfied that sufficient supplies of all other components can be obtained without direct production by the Government in its own factories and workshops.
§ Mr. WilmotIn answer to the first two parts of the Question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the replies given to him on 5th and 14th March. Orders for ceramic components have now been placed, but those for cookers and heaters are not yet settled. Further orders on the factories will be placed as and when neces- 15 sary, within the limits of available capacity, in accordance with my policy of using the royal ordnance factories to assist in overcoming shortages of civilian requirements.
Mr. BraddockWhile thanking my right hon. Friend for his reply, may I ask whether he will consider publishing a report or a White Paper at an early date giving some account of the measures he proposes to take to meet the shortage?
§ Mr. ErrollIs the Minister making any preparation to increase the output of cast-iron baths from the factories, as they are among the articles most seriously short at the present time?
§ Mr. WilmotYes, Sir.
§ Mr. WilmotI will consider the matter.
§ 69. Mr. Bossomasked the Minister of Supply and of Aircraft Production if he has yet established his programme of delivery, in England and Wales, Of bath tubs for the months of July, August, September, October and November for use in both temporary and permanent houses or reconditioned houses; and if he will give the numbers and in which classification of building these are to be used.
§ Mr. WilmotA production programme has been settled covering estimated requirements for the housing programme; the division between temporary, permanent and reconditioned houses and repairs cannot be given at this stage.
§ Mr. BossomHas the Minister any information as to whether he will have enough bath tubs for these houses, although he has a programme for the houses?
§ Mr. WilmotI think so, Sir.
