HC Deb 25 March 1946 vol 421 cc24-5
57. Colonel Ropner

asked the Minister of Agriculture what is the number of houses at present under construction for whole time employees of the Forestry Commission; and what is the number of houses under construction to provide accommodation with forest workers' holdings.

Mr. T. Williams

The answer to the first part of the question is 15, and to the second, Nil.

Colonel Ropner

Can the Minister say why the position is so very unsatisfactory?

Mr. Williams

It is due perhaps to many causes, including the non-availability of technicians. However, I can assure the hon. and gallant Gentleman that plans for 100 houses in England are already well in hand and tenders are being invited, and also 100 houses in Scotland.

Sir Ronald Ross

Are these houses being built by private firms?

Mr. Speaker

That is another question.
