HC Deb 25 March 1946 vol 421 c6
8. Mr. Chamberlain

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether options and treatment similar to those recently announced for the Polish Forces will be accorded to members of the Czechoslovak armed forces under British command.

Mr. McNeil

The Czechoslovak troops remaining in this country number only 75 officers and 333 other ranks. The problem is thus in no way comparable to that of the Polish armed forces under British command. In practice, however, those Czechs who wish to be demobilised in this country rather than return as soldiers to their own country are entitled to make individual application.

Mr. Chamberlain

Is the Minister aware that a Czech airman, who fought gallantly in the Czech forces during the war and is now in the R.A.F., and who has married a constituent of mine, received a peremptory order to return at the shortest possible notice for repatriation to Czechoslovakia? Does not this matter require to be looked into further?

Mr. McNeil

If my information is correct, the case to which my hon. Friend has referred is covered by my answer.
