§ 26. Captain Peartasked the Minister of War Transport when it is intended to commence roadwork in the County of Cumberland to absorb the unemployed of the development area of West Cumberland.
§ Mr. BarnesI am not yet the highway authority for any roads in the Development Area of West Cumberland but, in anticipation of certain roads becoming Trunk Roads on 1st April, I have made arrangements with the County Council which I hope will result in work being started this year on at least two major improvement schemes, south of Egrement. I am also prepared to consider applications from the highway authority for 10 grants, at the increased rates recently announced, for approved works of improvement or maintenance on classified roads.
